I have my master's degree in the humanities and am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the same. I fell in love with the idea of questioning technology when I was introduced to an interview Playboy had done with Marshall McLuhan. Ha! of all places. A professor I had in my undergraduate humanities class(a requirement to graduate) had given us the article to start us thinking about the role of technology in our lives. He coupled it with the fictional work Snow Crash. Ever since, I have been hooked. My favorite element is how works of literature reflect our struggle with "progress" and eventually my dissertation may incorporate 19th century authors writing during the Industrial Revolution.
