My graduate work is in fiction writing, but I also hold a BS in mathematics (hence the techno-humanist bent, I guess). I studied programming in college in the days of punch-cards that were fed into room-sized computers by technicians in white coats. I wasn't very good at programming, and I still don't know much about coding, html, CSS and all that jazz, but I have been a blogger since 2004. For the past five or six years I've been requiring that my students blog, hoping that they'll get the same thrill of connection (of many sorts) that I do; in the past year or so I've also started incorporating multimedia and digital story-telling projects. I'm interested in exploring the ways technology can be used in the FYC classroom to foster both engagement and creativity (for a start...).
